With the roll-out of high power PoE (Power over Ethernet) applications up to 60 or 100W, the Direct Current (DC) resistance of twisted pair cabling becomes an important parameter. If the DC resistance of a cable pair is too high and/or the DC resistance between pairs or even within wires of a pair differs too much, the temperature of that pair or wire can increase above the allowed cable or connector specification. As a result, that cabling will suffer accelerated aging or even damaging: Furthermore, there is also a significant risk to lose data due to signal distortion. Therefore, ISO/IEC, TIA and Cenelec have defined testing of DCRU as an optional parameter that can be added to regular cable certification, in case the use of high power PoE is planned for a specific cabling installation.

WireXpert supports the industrial end-to-end link applications with the Industrial Ethernet adapter kits. Separate kits are available for two-pair (D-Coded) and four-pair (X-coded) industrial Ethernet test.
WireXpert is the first cable certification tester with full support for X-coded industrial Ethernet cabling. These kits feature adapters with high performance TERA interface and test cords terminated in M12 test connectors. This approach provides flexibility particularly in space constrained industrial outlets as test instrument does not need to directly attach to the link under test. Second, this approach improves longevity of the adapter because extensive use will wear out only the test cords, not the adapter.

Coax Cabling solution has a wide RF measurements frequency range of 1-2,400 MHz. The Autotest takes about 15 seconds and both dual-ended and single-ended testing can be performed. There are customizable test limits for insertion loss and return loss.

The Longlife measuring cables are compatible with all WireXpert series copper certifiers, allowing very cost effective permanent link measurements with exchangeable RJ45 connectors.

During permanent link measurements the RJ45 plug of the measuring cable is the main wearing part because the RJ45 plugs age over time due to repeated insertions and have to be replaced. The longlife measurement cables feature a field replaceable RJ45 plug, which can be changed by the customer in just a few minutes. Corresponding replacement parts are offered by Softing. Measurement cables can also occasionally be damaged in the field, e.g. by being jammed in steel cabinet doors or device cases. Another advantage of the longlife measurement cables is that the measurement cable itself is a comparatively inexpensive and easy-to-exchange spare part.

CAT6A+ adapters for the WireXpert Series enable all WireXpert 500, 500-PLUS and 4500 devices to test Direct Current Resistance Unbalance (DCRU) on twisted pair shielded and unshielded LAN cabling additionally to the regular Autotest parameters. CAT6A+ adapters also help to identify on shielded cables whether the cable shield is connected to the correct socket.
